About us

@The Neck Outlook, Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia

Hi everyone and welcome to my (or let’s better say our) website. Traveling has been a passion of mine ever since I was a little child and my parents took me abroad for the first time. Now I can share this passion with my wife and travel mate Patricia! Most of all we love the sea and its wildlife as well as exploring cities. Meeting new people and making new friends while traveling is an awesome experience and therefore an important aspect for us as well!

We know that planning and organizing an (extended) journey takes a lot of time researching for the best destinations, accommodations, flights, rental cars, sights, tours etc.

We do not know (and even do not want to know) how many weeks, days and hours we have spent on research over the years since we have been traveling but we know how to do it the easiest way and we want to help you in saving time and money organizing your holidays.

A little story on how I (Markus) probably discovered my passion for traveling

I grew up in a house in a town in the Austrian Alps. Many people spend their holidays in this tourist region and my mother let 5 bedrooms in the upper floor of our house to guests. So I came in contact with tourism in my very early life. Growing up there I met people from around the world who stayed at our house.

At the age of 18 I made my first REAL big trip: A married couple who spent their holidays at one of the rooms in our house invited me to their hometown : Ottawa, Ontario, Canada! At this time there was no internet or it was at least not well-developed yet. So I booked a flight at a travel agency and went to visit them for a WHOLE MONTH in August 1996. I had never spent so much time away from home till that time! HOW EXCITING!

Years later I met the woman I am married to now and we share the same passion: TRAVELING. We try to travel as much as we can, sometime longer, sometimes shorter, sometimes closer to where we live (i.e. Europe) and sometimes farther away (New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, …).

The tourism industry has changed

In the time between my first holiday abroad as a child and now the whole tourism sector has undergone dramatic changes. I remember the times when my mum sent hundreds of handwritten letters by post to potential guest who made an inquiry at the local tourist office hoping that the one or other would book a room at our house.

No one could even think of that nowadays. You can book your accommodation and virtually everything you need for your holidays online. This makes it much easier but also much more complex on the other hand as there are apparently endless ways on how to organize your trip and book anything you need for that.

Help you through the “travel jungle”

On this website we want to show you the way my wife and I love to travel, with maximum freedom and joy but within a reasonable budget, what resources we use or found in order to organize everything to get out most of it!

If you ever need a hand or have a question, feel free to leave them below and we will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Markus and Patricia
